A growing number of states have added Spanish-language insurance licensing exams in the major lines of authority (Life, Health, Property, Casualty, Personal Lines) to better serve the growing number of Spanish-speaking consumers in the United States. The Census Bureau estimates there were 65.2 million Hispanics in the U.S. as of July 2023, a new high. They made up more than 19% of the nation’s population. As of 2024, 22 states offer licensing exams in Spanish.
While a significant portion of the Hispanic community is bilingual, a considerable number primarily speak Spanish. This presents a barrier to accessing insurance products and services.
Statistics show that Hispanic Americans are underinsured compared to other racial and ethnic groups, highlighting the need for greater accessibility.

It is essential that the Hispanic population has access to insurance. Conning Research predicts there will be more than 30 million new Hispanic drivers hitting the roads through 2050, and the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals predicts they will be the largest group of homebuyers in the country by 2030.
While much of the Hispanic community in the United States are on the bilingual spectrum, it is important to make Spanish available to this audience. According to the SXM Media Bilingual Study, 29% of surveyed Hispanic people speak Spanish only, 54% are on the bilingual spectrum, and 17% speak only English.
