Series 9/10 Overview

Although commonly referred to as the Series 9/10, these exams are actually structured as two separate tests. Candidates may sit for both exams on the same day or schedule them separately on different days. However, you must pass both exams within two years to register as a General Securities Sales Supervisor.

Series 9/10 registrants are authorized to supervise sales activities of a broker/dealer. The primary areas overseen by General Securities Sales Supervisors are:

  • Corporate Securities
  • Closed-End Funds
  • Money Market Funds
  • REITs
  • Equity Options
  • Mutual Funds
  • Variable Insurance Contracts
  • Government Securities
  • Direct Participation Programs

An important distinction regarding the Series 9/10 registration is that it only qualifies an individual to supervise sales activities. General Securities Sales Supervisors are not authorized to manage the underwriting, trading, or compliance areas of the business.

Who Can Take the Exam?

Candidates must be sponsored by a FINRA member firm and must first pass both the SIE and Series 7 exams to sit for the Series 9/10.
